On Monday the 6th of August the 8th Eneco Tour will start in Waalwijk, with many international top riders. However, most attention will be put on Spaniard Alberto Contador, since Eneco Tour will mark his return to racing.
Also thanks to its charter of UCI World Tour the Eneco Tour can yearly boast an international elevated field of participants. Think of the winners of the last three editions: Edvald Boasson Hagen (twice) and Tony Martin. With the presence of Alberto Contador, who won the Tour de France twice, this status will be surely confirmed this year.
Even in the Low Lands, Alberto Contador will find a perfect tour for his capacities. The Eneco Tour 2012 offers a more than ever various course. There are two time trials: one team time trial, on Tuesday in Sittard, and an individual race against the clock on the penultimate day in Ardooie. Part of the finale of the world championship inDutch Limburg will be broached on Wednesday between Riemst and Genk.
On the finale day there will be a very rough stage in the Flemish Ardennes with arrival on the "Muur van Geraardsbergen". Except from the top of that climb, the cobbles will be ignored. With that, the Eneco Tour forms an ideal preparation for the autumn races and for sure also the world championship.
Alberto Contador almost can't wait until the 6th of August: "Eneco Tour will be a very special race for me for several reasons. First, it will be my return to competition, so I'm excited, because any rider like to compete and, secondly, I am very excited to come back here because the race is raced in two countries where cycling culture is deeply rooted and where cycling moves more people than anywhere else. Here I have always felt at home. The route, moreover, is maybe not the most favorable to me, but my ultimate goal here is to take the pace of competition to meet the objectives of the end of theseason".
