History
2007
The 2007 edition is entirely devoted to Kim
Clijsters, who will say goodbye to her Belgian fans. And Kim wants to
storm on, which she makes crystal clear by only giving in 12 games against
Poutchkova, Ivanovic and
Golovin on the road to the final. On the other side she meets
Amélie Mauresmo, who plays the final for the third year in a
row. The French only has to win one more time to take the so much coveted
diamond racket home. Which she does, by beating Kim with 6-4 and 7-6.Kim Clijsters receives a long applaus afterwards and is surprised by a special performance of Clouseau. Tears flow, not only Kim's, but many of the fans in the Sportpaleis too.
Goose pimps of the best nature, and Amélie Mauresmo takes the diamonds home.
2006
Kim Clijsters injures her ankle in the semi
finals of the Australian Open and in the runup to the fifth Proximus Diamond
Games she is still recovering. Right before the start the organisation receives
the surprising but good news that Clijsters will be able to play. Venus
Williams cancels again, this time with an arm injury. For the first time since October 2004 in Filderstadt the world's number one and two face each other in the final of a WTA tournament. And what a final between Kim Clijsters and Amélie Mauresmo. Mauresmo takes the title for a second year in a row after a long 3-6, 6-3 and 6-3. She is only one win away from the diamond racket.
2006 is also the champagne year. The organisation of the event gives everyone a bottle of champagne because Kim Clijsters started the tournament as the world's number one.
2005
Will the third time be the right one for Venus
Williams? The American aims to win the coveted diamond racket at her
third participation. On her way to the final she passes by Kim
Clijsters, who started competing again after a complicated wrist
injury.
On the other half of the draw Amélie Mauresmo is making her way. The French player eliminates Pierce, Schnyder and Molik.
In the final against Venus Mauresmo seems to be giving in. Williams wins the first set and at 2-2 in the second breaks through her opponent's service. The racket is really close now. Still Venus can't keep up herself. Mauresmo takes advantage and takes the title at her first participation. The smashing final ended in 4-6, 7-5 and 6-4. Afterwards, Venus cries.

Venus Williams wanted so much to take home the diamond racket
for good but a leg injury kept her from contending at the Sportpaleis. Justine
Henin, ill, couldn't participate either. Kim Clijsters, however, could.
And how! Passing Arantxa Parra, Magdalena Maleeva, Myriam Casanova she moves into the final, supported by a huge fan base. In the final she crushes the Italian Silvia Farina Elia: 6-3 and 6-0. Clijsters wins the third edition of the Proximus Diamond Games.

Venus Williams loves diamond city Antwerp and
has a goal. She wants to conquer the diamond racket. Maja
Matevzic, Tina Pisnik and Daniela
Hantuchova cannot stop her. Kim Clijsters, who beats
Justine Henin in the semi finals, faces her in Venus in the
final. Kim can hardly put up a tight fight against the American. Venus wins
again: 6-2 and 6-4. Williams only needs one more win for her to take the diamond
racket home to Florida. 2002
No one less but Venus Williams travels to
the Antwerp Sportpaleis for the first editie of the Proximus Diamond
Games. The first seed, the world's number two at that time, eliminates
